Reiki Instruction

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Eric Hartwell Reiki is a traditional Japanese form of hands-on healing. With the passage of time Reiki has long since broken its traditional face to emerge as a constantly evolving and dynamically contemporary therapy and as a way of life for many. If you wish to study Reiki you will find that there are various new branches for instruction in this medium. Practitioners go through various levels and earn degrees in order to get certified as a genuine Reiki practitioner. They may hail from different traditions and may have studied under many Masters. Generally the original form of Reiki was imparted in three levels or degrees with an additional level called a Master Degree or Master Level and only after completing which an initiate is eligible to teach Reiki to others. Let us have a look at some of the various branches of instruction in Reiki: Usui Shiki Ryoho: This is the original branch started by Mrs. Takata. This is followed by Reiki Alliance Masters and solitaries alike. There are three degrees which is taught as an oral tradition with hardly any notes if any. The First Degree has four attunements, the history and mythos, hand positions and channeling Reiki energy for self-healing as well as healing others. The Second Degree teaches yet more attunements, three of the four sacred symbols, distance/absentee healing and healing mental and emotional disorders. The Master Degree has one attunement, the fourth sacred symbol is taught and techniques for initiations and channeling more energy are taught as also many other things. Raku Kei Reiki: A Johrei Fellowship Practitioner (Jo Reiki) who was trained by Takata called Iris Ishikuro is said to have made a significant contribution to this branch of instruction. Raku Kei Reiki is also known as ‘The way of the Fire Dragon’. It is made of the directional flow of energy where Raku stands for vertical flow and Kei stands for horizontal flow of energy. The First and Second Degree is taught as a single class and talk about a different history with a man named Rolf Jensen, hand positions, healing techniques, using Master Frequency plates and four traditional symbols, distance/absentee healing. Third Degree/ Reiki Sensei has attunements to all three levels, a breath technique known as “Breath of the Fire Dragon”, 2 additional symbols, white light healing, using herbs and crystals for healing, Reiki Spinal Therapy. The Master Degree or Certified Reiki Sensei is for those who wish to teach or obtain Master status. This Class requires signing a contract with the American Reiki Master Association. Tera Mai or Tera Mei Seichem: This is an offshoot of the above Raku Kei Reiki with a few changes including energy activation of Sakara, Angelic light and Sophi-el. Kathleen feels that the energy of Reiki is very Earthy hence the name Tera. The lesson format is similar but there are additions like additional symbols, a water ceremony and a YOD initiation which is said to connect the initiate with the energies of the Arc of the Covenant. Usui/Tibetan Reiki: This is a combination of Traditional, Raku Kei and Rands own understandings. The First and Second Degrees are taught as one class and are similar to traditional Reiki, a different history is taught and techniques taught in the traditional Usui Reiki like Energy Grids, Attunement Exercise and performing Chakra and Aura work and Psychic Surgery. Master/Teacher Degree is also similar but there are additions like Reiki III Meditation (using microcosmic orbit), 2 Tibetan initiatory symbols, attunement methods (like Raku Kei) to First, Second, ART and Master/Teacher plus a Healing Attunement, Violet Breath Exercise and other additional symbols. CEU’s are available through the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) and The National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) for nurses and massage therapists. There are many others like Karuna Reiki, Seichem / Sekhem, Johrei Reiki, Jinlap Maitri Reiki, Ichi Sekai Reiki, Vajra Reiki, Satya Japanese Reiki, Blue Star Reiki, Golden Age Reiki, Ascension Reiki, Brahma Satya Reiki to name a few. Breakfast

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

By Dave Fooder The term breakfast denotes that it is the meal that breaks fast i.e. the fast during sleep. As it is the first meal of the day, we have breakfast in the morning. In the weekdays, most of the American people have a quick breakfast. But on the weekend or holidays they have a lavish traditional breakfast. On the working days the breakfast consists of coffee or any snack on the way to office. They can buy the fast food or bring it from their home. The contemporary breakfast therefore should be a quick preparation and convenient. The popular dishes of the quick breakfast list are breads, pastries, flavored cupped yogurts, fruits, instant oatmeal and granola and many more. You can also use leftovers of the previous meal to make breakfast. A more elaborate breakfast may contain fried or scrambled eggs, one kind of meat and starchy dishes. A basic combination of breakfast is starchy foods like toast, pastry, cereals, pancakes and porridge, fresh fruits and yogurts. You can also have only the starchy foods in your breakfast also. Eggs are very popular in the quick breakfast preparation. They take such an important place in the breakfast that they are considered out of place in other courses of meals. You can have the sweeter and less spicy versions of egg offerings such as egg-filled sandwiches of croissants, hamburgers without the regular vegetable garnishes and breakfast burritos or tacos filled with eggs and cheese, often with more additions like meat or beans. A combination called country breakfast with omlette, sausage or bacon, hash browns, sausage with gravy, coffee, toast with jam or jelly and fruit juice is quite popular. There are restaurant chains in United States who specializes in the breakfast dishes like pancakes and the country breakfast. You can find the cuisine there at any time of the day. The trend of this quick breakfast is now popular in other industrialized countries of the world. Dave Fooder runs a premiere exchange recipes network online. How Black Mold Affects You And What You Can Do About It

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Lee Dobbins The toxic kind of “Black Mold” is known as the Strachybotrys atra. This slimy, greenish black substance can actually lead to health risk such as asthma and bronchitis. Studies conducted by the Center of Disease Control or the CDC reflect that this mold is the reason for over “100 cases of lung disorders.” Molds can also be located in anyone’s home. These industrial molds may not be toxic and it takes a lot of time and effort to specify which mold is toxic and which isn’t because it will entail laboratory exams. However, the best conclusion we can tell you is that if a mold is found in your home, it is considered to not be a healthy home. Mold is a parasite which attaches itself to various hosts: be it people, animals, clothes, shoes or even the doors and windows of houses. These spores grow faster when it is moist and damp. Some molds even develop under water. Look above your ceiling now and check for molds. If there is a spot which is frequently wet from rain and drips a lot, chances are you’d see some molds there. Also, go to the bathroom and check your tiles. Chances are there is a bit of a mold there. Wall paneling and cardboard, they can have molds in it. Even cotton. Clothes you haven’t worn for a long time now and has been stocked up in the attic or in the basement can have molds attached to it. Try touching a mold. It is slimy. Try rubbing it on the surface. It would smear its greenish and blackish fluid. Once you see a mold, try to remove it when you can. Clean it up as soon as possible. Although these can be easily done if the infested area is small like leak and plumbing problems. These can easily be handled by bleach and water. If you want, you can also add soap to the solution that you have handy there. Apply the bleach solution to the moldy are and let it stay there for about fifteen minutes. Then concentrate on the surrounding areas. This will lessen the chance for the mold to spread any further. If the mold is located in insulation or on fabrics like carpet, then it will be harder to remove it. An infested area that is over 2ft is termed “highly infested” and it is something you cannot remove on your own. It is best you seek professional help in eradicating that risk. If you ignore the molds, this could result to flooding and possible health risks. It is because if you take these molds not as serious as you should, they can actually lead to you inhaling them, therefore risking your health. Prevention is better than cure and you can actually apply these preventive measures so you won’t have any black mold to eradicated in the first place. - Keep the humidity down in your house. Double check if the ventilation is just right in rooms in your household specifically the bathroom and the kitchen. It is because molds usually appear in these two rooms. - Before painting any of your walls, add mold inhibitors. - Clean the carpet by using mold killing products even if there is no mold found. The same applies in the bathroom tiles and corners. It may seem to not be a problem but it is. Black mold are something everyone must learn how to eradicate and better yet, prevent. In institutions, black mold can actually cause an allergic reaction to people who have allergies to black mold. People who also have respiratory problems such as asthma may also have their attacks triggered through these infested areas. A clean home is a mold-free home. Molds are a form of bacteria. Just like any kind of bacteria, it must be extinguished as soon as possible. Lee Dobbins writes for http://mold.home-webzone.com/ where you can learn more about mold control. Discover 3 Natural Remedies For Morning Sickness

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

By David Silva Here’s an estimate that might shock you: as many as 80% of pregnant women experience morning sickness or some form of nausea during their pregnancy. Fortunately, the morning sickness doesn’t last throughout the entire pregnancy. It tends to peak around the 9th week and disappear around the 20th week. Unfortunately, nearly three months of battling nausea can be tough on anyone. Because of concerns for the baby, more and more women are turning to natural remedies for their morning sickness. However, even natural remedies require caution. For instance, the three most common natural remedies for morning sickness are ginger tea, acupressure wristbands, and peppermint oil. Yet these remedies can cause mild adverse reactions such as skin irritation due to the wristbands or the intolerable taste of the ginger. You do have other choices, however. Here’s a short list of steps you can take immediately to help relieve your morning sickness - Eat frequent, smaller meals so you never feel too hungry or too full. - Avoid fried or fatty foods. - Eat crackers, bread, toast, cereal and other bland foods throughout the day. Eat something from this list before you get out of bed in the morning. - Drink plenty of fluids, especially between meals. - Keep a record of your activities and the foods you eat in order to identify what tends to trigger your nausea. If these steps aren’t helpful, then you might want to consider trying one of natural remedies listed above. Let’s take a closer look at these … Acupuncture A very small percentage of pregnant women experience hyperemesis gravidarium, which is a severe form of morning sickness that can result in weight loss, dehydration, and potentially hospitalization. Several studies have demonstrated that regular, several-times-a-day acupuncture sessions can be helpful in minimizing this form of nausea and vomiting. In addition, acupuncture wrist bands (also known as sea bands) that stimulate the pericardium (p6) acupuncture point can be effective. The wrist band consists of a plastic button that applies pressure on the p6 point inside the wrist. This is a form of traditional Chinese medicine used to relieve nausea, and it generally works immediately. You can find an acupuncture wrist band online or at your local health food store. They’re generally reasonably priced. Ginger Ginger is a popular natural remedy for morning sickness. It’s been used for this purpose for centuries, and after numerous medical trials, is generally recognized as safe. However, ginger does contain substances that can potentially cause birth defects. For this reason, taking higher doses (over 500 mg) during pregnancy is generally unadvisable. In addition, there are concerns that ginger can prolong bleeding time and interfere with platelet aggregation, though studies focused on the first trimester found no notable difference in the number or miscarriages, stillbirths and malformations. Ginger is commonly taken in hot water as a tea. It can also be consumed as ginger soda, gingersnaps or in capsule form. Peppermint Essential Oil Nausea can be minimized by using the aroma of peppermint. It’s relatively easy to create your own peppermint aroma bowl. Fill a large bowl with hot water, add two drops of peppermint essential oil, and you’re all set. Keep the bowl on a nightstand near where you sleep and see if it doesn’t help. As with any medical treatment or natural remedy, always consult with your physician first. Some natural remedies can work against medications, others can have hidden side effects that your physician can caution you about. A Healthy New Year Includes Chocolate

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Gerene Schendel Chocolate lovers will rejoice when they hear that it has actually been researched and concluded that it is a healthy addition to your diet in moderation. The resourceful Mayans and Aztecs were the first tribes that discovered this substance 3000 years ago in Central America. The pods were from the cacao trees and were fermented to make a strong bitter drink called xocoatl, meaning” bitter water”. On occasion maize or vanilla was added to the bitter liquid to make it more palatable. Cocoa beans were also used as currency. The Swedish botanist Linnaeus, introduced the systematic task of classifying plants. In 1730 he gave them latin names and the cacao tree was given the identity Theobroma, meaning ” food of the gods”, or “divine food”. Cacao bean trees bear fruit nearly year-round and the flavors of the beans vary depending on the time of the year they are harvested. Two harvests are gathered per year, November to January known as the “Christmas crop” and a smaller harvest in June, known as the” St. John’s crop”. Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, the author of a rare book on gastronomy titled Physiolgie du Gout in 1826 stated “The persons who habitually take chocolate are those who enjoy the most equable and instant health, and are the least liable to a multitude of illnesses which spoil the enjoyment of life.” New and constantly emerging studies indicate chocolate can treat depression, because it contains phenylethylamine, a slight anti-depressant similar to our body’s own dopamine and adrenaline. Chocolate also tends to increase levels of serotonine which aids persons with depression and PMS symptoms. The cocoa butter aspect of chocolate acts similar to olive oil, containing a number of essential oils that are beneficial for strengthing the bones, hair folicals and nails. Flavonoids that chocolate contain, appear to prevent cell damage and inflamation, also benefiting the skin from aging. This divine food contains vitamins A1, B1, B2, C, D and E. Minerals include calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, iron ,zinc, copper, chromium and phosphorous. With the 136 studies done thus far on the health benefits of chocolate, studies confirm that cocoa contain antioxidants which fight free radicals that form cancer and anticoagulants which are the same properties of asprin and prevent blood clots, increases blood flow and less platelet stickiness. It has also been sited for improving bad cholestrerol by as much as 10 percent. Each American consumes about 12 pounds of chocolate per year, now you have permission to enjoy the rich, creamy deliciousness of chocolate. After all everything was put on this Earth for a reason, but also everything should be enjoyed in moderation. Gerene Schendel is passionate about chocolate and she invites you to follow your bliss. Online Dating Safety - Tackling Internet Crime

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Marc Newman Online dating is a great way to contact and meet new people. Either for free or for a small fee you can have access to thousands of singles looking for love. However it is an unfortunate fact that whilst the vast majority of people using these services are decent law abiding citizens looking for love there are those that seek to exploit the vulnerabiltiy of singles online. A common trick comes from African or Eastern European nationals who e-mail users with tales of family deaths, large inheritences and if only they could get across to the UK if you pay them some money they would share this money with you. They often ask for your private e-mail address for “privacy” purposes. Of course this is a scam pure and simple, yet some users may be caught out and it is important to learn to identify these scams. Tips Firstly do not be fooled by their profile details - their sign up information may say they are from the UK, United States etc.. but this does not mean they are. More often than not they are sitting in an internet cafe in Africa. Secondly check for language and spelling - broken English is often a good sign of a scam. Thirdly do they seem overly interested in you - remember if it is too good to be true it usually is Fourthly are they requesting personal details. Often these scammers will request your e-mail address for “security” reasons. How do I protect myself NEVER give out personal details, even an e-mail address unless you know the person. Nearly all online dating sites offer a secure internal e-mail system whereby you can chat to users without revealing any of your personal details. If you do suspect a member is attempting to commit a crime then report them to the dating site administrator who will take the neccessary action against the offender. If you are sure it is a scam then also report the user to their ISP who may then disable their e-mail. Remember despite this the majority of users of online dating services are genuwine decent people. A bit of caution however could stop you getting caught out.
